Bobby Wasabi is a team competing in Overwatch Contenders North America. The team came to me in August of 2021 to help with their graphics and social media.
The team is named after the character from the Disney show, "Kickin' It", and therefore not a serious team that will have any form of longevity as a brand in esports. I approached this project with a sense of freedom to not attempt to create any form of branding or guidelines and just hopefully make some visually appealing graphics.
The roster announcement was the first graphic created and the beginning of the visual style. From there, I moved into match coverage and continued the visual growth. These ended up being very safe final products, as the visuals only got bolder from here. Using as much of our bold colour palette as possible in every graphic, every single graphic should be never be the same.
This calligraphy based glyph font is the backbone to every graphic and is one of the key pieces to giving every graphic a unique look.
For all of the September tournament, the choice of hero and skin selection was tied as closely to the opposing team as possible.
For example, Solaris is a latin word meaning "pertaining to the sun". For our match against them I chose a Zenyatta skin named Ra, as Ra was the patron of the suns.
